Dearest Cathy

I love you for this. And a hundred other reasons.

Mrs. Bevans - November 20, 2010

It was a blustery day. Cold. Very Cold.
There were some minor setbacks - Cathy left Lethbridge late to get to the temple in Cardston; Trent forgot to pick up his tux. But all things were worked out. Michelle (Cathy's sister) and I, got the tux and made the usual hour drive in a half hour. We're awesome. So is speeding.

Alaya is a good friend. And warmed the brides hands.

Cathy had five bridesmaids.
Trent had fifteen groomsmen.
Yes. Fifteen.
We took pictures in shifts.

This is the dental groomsmen.

Please note the really attractive blonde giving the camera everything he's got. HA.

These are the old school friends from back in the day.

Also.. this configuration of the bridal party is my favorite.

And these are the family groomsmen.

Funny thing about Trent and Cody.
In the January of my fourth year of Undergrad, Cody had decided he was interested in Cathy. So he came from Saskatoon and brought Trent to try to woo Cathy into dating him. Trent and I got along quite well and enjoyed being the wingman couple. Then Cody decided he thought he might like dating me. So Trent started going for Cathy. Trent and Cathy started dating. Cody and I did not. But our love square (and successful switching of roommates) will go on in infamy.

Saskatoon DMD 2012: Alan, Jay, Chris, Cody, Peter, Riley and Trent
Trent's dental friends are funny.

The family dinner/reception were good. But its weird being home. I'd see people I used to know from highschool. But we arent even on a catch up basis. It just was weird.

People ask me how the wedding was - It was wedding-y. I mean it doesnt particularly matter if I enjoyed it. It wasnt about me. (But it was perfectly fine/funnish). But Cathy is married now. I'm happy for her. I really am. But its kind of a bitter sweet moment. Every good friend that gets married reminds me of my stand still and the loss of a particular dimension of our friendship. Yes, good friends will still be my friends once they're married - in fact most of my best friends are married - even my dental school ones. But it changes things. The relationship has to evolve. And while I adore them and their happiness, being with them is more like being a visitor in their life (as opposed to being a part of it). They are a couple now - and very few people are able to still care about the day to day single life drama when they are so perfectly happy in coupledom. My usefulness to them is diminished. They have a husband to depend on (as they should). And gone are the days of them hanging out with me at single people events. I mean, its completely understandable. If I were them, I'd veto YSA life too. Its just unfortunate for me a bit. Cause my life is YSA. And its another person, telling me that they're "sure my time will come too"... Awesome. So while I'm so very happy for them - part of me is sad. Its one more person moving past me, leaving me behind. I guess its not unusual for it to not be the same anymore. It just seems a little sad to me.

Good Time Girls

I love my friends. Bonnie, Cathy and I are so great (in a completely not conceded way). This weekend has been filled with many fun filled events.

1. Bonnie and I stopped at the classic Claresholm 7-11.
That place is a bloody dream. A dream of fried chicken
kabobs, potato wedges and corn dogs! YUM!

2. I love my friends. Seriously, there is something completely safe
and comforting about going and just being yourself, and laughing. I
have laughed so much this weekend. We say funny things, we do
funny things. And I love every minute. We headed to the new C-town
mall, and wandered. We ended the mall moment in Le Chateau. Cathy
found THE dress. The one that is perfectly suited to who she is as a
person. This dress is her. As such, it was magic. Bonnie and I also
showed a couple little numbers. By the end, we almost had Bonnie
convinced to buy the leather dress she tried on. All sorts of hilarity.
And dont get me started on leather jackets... boy oh boy. My friends
are funny.                                     .                    .                                .

3. The Wilderman family. Erin Wilderman was in Cath's dental hygiene class and when we go to Calgary we stay at her parents house. This family is hilarious. And wonderful. They made us breakfast both mornings (pancakes and french toast + bacon). They helped deck Bon and Cath out for the wedding we were going to. And are the most wonderfully hospitable family I've ever met. Saturday we spent the entire day just laughing and talking. And there wasnt a moment of boredom with them around.

4. The fact that the wedding program was BRUTAL. And had a one woman show.
Just so its known, talking awkwardly about the couples' terrible break ups... not kosher.
Bon Tron, C-Fresh and I have made a pact that no awkward break up talk will be part
of our wedding programs. I mean for heaven's sake, this woman sang "Its raining men..."
and "Celebrate good times" ... It was a train wreck. But we couldnt look away.

5. Meet Peter
If only Peter hadnt been too cool two years ago.
He's a Saskatchewan friend with Cody and Trent.
And hilarious. He was a welcome addition to our
usual five. Funny guy. Real shame we werent
friends sooner.

6. Both Friday and Saturday we ended up at Cody's house.
And even tho we just sat around talking and laughing, it was
such a good time. Call us for a good time. For real. We are great.

7. Funny moments where first I was teaching Bonnie how to snuggle.
Which did not work out so hot. But I will give her an award for most improved.
But she left me for Cody (understandable) and Cathy and Trent invited me to
join them. As they spooned on the tiny love seat. So I had Peter push the couch up
to box me in. It was super funny. Especially when Cody's roommate Jordan came
home and got a three handed wave from the love seat. Cause without the three
handed wave, pretty sure he wouldnt of been able to see Cathy. She's just a little
girl who got absorbed into Trent and my bodies. Hilarious moment? Yes. Are
my friends and I a little too comfortable with each other? Most likely.

8. So after church today we watched
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Can I just say that I am in love with
Christian Slater. Seriously... he is
a nineties dreamboat. The entire movie
I was in love. Might have been a bit
much. But after the movie finishes,
Bryan Adams "Everything I Do"...
Cathy and I start slow dancing. Yup...
stop judging. We were slow dancing
and it was going quite well if I do say
so myself. I mean, after we figured out
who was gonna be the boy that is (me
FYI). So I tell Cath I cant remember
how to dip someone and am gonna try.
Cathy is all for this. So I spin her in, start
to dip her and my feet and hers come out
from under us. Cathy slams her head into
the tv stand, speaker and table. And then
has me fall on top of her. I felt so bad. She's laughing tho. And Bonnie tells
me that, that was really awkward to watch. Bonnie called my dancing
awkward... thats saying something. So we're laughing on the floor and I'm
apologizing to Cath. She's feeling her head and pulls her hand away... and it
is bloody. Now I'm really apologizing. I dropped her and she smashed her
head and cut it. I felt so bad. Needless to say, I dont think we'll be dancing
again. Sorry Cath. My bad. Turns out I wasnt meant to be the boy.
Seriously. So sorry Cath. I love you?

This weekend was excellent. Right now dinner is in the oven. I have great friends. Seriously GREAT!

P.S> This is love

Far East Asia

So Cathy and I head down to Calgary Thursday night. We arrive and go to a good friend of Cathy's. Erin Wilderman is in Cathy's dental hygiene program and well... Cathy speaks more than highly of her and her entire family. And I found out for good reason. They really are just amazingly kind, generous and HILARIOUS people. And I loved every second. To walk into a stranger's house and instantly feel welcomed... something I hope to one day be able to accomplish.

Anyways, not ten minutes from being there all the sudden they had Cathy all dressed up.
Shoes, kimono, high bun, chop sticks and samarai sword.

And they couldnt let me miss out on this special moment.
So we bowed.
Took up our fighting positions.
And waged a epic battle.

All in all, this moment was ridiculous. But made me think of my asian cousins. So I hope I did you all proud.

So You Wanna Be A Baller?

Slingshot Paint Baller that is.

Ed - my new friend is the greatest for coming up with this idea.
We needed something to do on a Monday night. What better thing to do than go down to the river bottom and crawl through the shrubbery and roots to nail someone with a paint ball. With a slingshot.

Oh! It is heaven.
I mean who doesnt love safety goggles (which P.S impair my peripheral vision to the point where I can only look straight down as I move about - yup I'm a handy)

Cath, Me and Jeb (Jeb is a freaking Hardcore... its scary - trust me.)

We'se girls are tough!

So for the first round of 3 on 3 on 3... Me, Bonnie and Ed got out. Yup. Our team was brutal. We did redeem ourselves on the last round. But we still didnt win. Dang Harrison (in Red) totally destroyed Bon and I. Crap. Guess I need to work on my slingshot skills...

Amy knows how to strut her stuff.

This game will never end. We're hardcore like that.

While I maintain that this game isnt really all that violent... well... we had our violent moments. Many a head shot occurred. Bonnie - got hit twice. Ed - got hit twice (yup... they definitely hit each other).. and poor poor Cathy - Bonnie just missed the glasses and got her right in the widows peak. I would say it was skill - but having been on Bon's team, I may change that to luck.

So the game may have ended... but the hitting each other didnt. Our excuse? We had to use up the left over paint balls.

So Bonnie - as we are driving, turns back to Cathy and goes "Cathy - you should really shower at my house. You're hair is DISGUSTING."

And Cathy is a little shocked...

So she replies "Bonnie - have you looked at your hair? Melissa - take a picture so she knows what she looks like."
Yup.. they both decided to veto the shower once this pic came out.

Rachel here is all smiles. Despite the fact that she majorly rolled her ankle being all stealth for paint ball. Sure.. her ankle caused the fun and games to end... But I did nail her in the neck with a paint ball... so we'll call it fair?

Sometimes I get to be the big strong man in our group of friends. Its pretty much amazing.

One of these things does not look like the other... Poor Rachel. Her ankle swelled up immediately.
On the upside, she doesnt have to work this week? Mostly cause she cant walk.

Yup. We're Ballers... Sling-shot paint ballers... And we love it.
